The Choice is a 2007 novel written by Nicholas Sparks. It was first published on September 24, 2007 by Grand Central Publishing.
Cloying and formulaic, The Choice is another Nicholas Sparks story of love with a twist of sadness. The book is not unpleasant, if you like escapist romance with barely flawed people living idyllic lives in idyllic places. It's a light and fast read for those looking for a quick diversion. And though romance novels thrive on an element of fantasy, The Choice pushes the limits of believability too far at times, especially at the end. About two-thirds of the book is dedicated to Gabby and Travis' burgeoning romance, with lots of dialogue. That in itself isn't a problem, but these characters aren't interesting at all.

The main issues they face are Gabby's decision over whether to date Travis and Travis' decision about Gabby later in the relationship. His decision certainly will be seen by many readers as illegal and immoral, but in this story it's depicted as OK because it's in the name of true love. Sparks drops a few clues and some deliberate misdirection about what Travis is facing, but it comes across as forced rather than suspenseful.

Part 1: Travis Parker and Gabby Holland set off into an interesting journey of life as neighbors and then young lovers. Travis Parker is a happy man with wonderful friends, a great occupation and an enviable life. He thinks his life is already full of joy and happiness – then Gabby Holland moves in the house next door. What blossoms is an emotional and inspiring love story. It is a story about overcoming barriers to be with your loved ones. It is about pure and intense romantic love, trust, strength, and the choices we can make to show them.
Part 2: Gabby suffers an accident, and Travis visits her in the hospital, where she is comatose. The doctors say she probably never will awaken. Travis is forced to make the choice between taking Gabby off life support or to sending her to long term care, knowing that she may never wake up. He decides to take his chances and move her to long term care. Three months later, Gabby wakes up from her coma and moves back into their house.
